Pfalz

Pfalz – Qualitätsweine b. A.

Pfalz QbA covers a large area from Worms to Schweigen near the southern border with France. Most of the soils consist of clay and sand and weathered limestone.  Soils of clay and marl produce wines with pleasant aromas and flavours while the mixed soil of clay with limestone produces light and fresh wines. Pfaltz QbA has a temperate climate and the vineyard area is the second largest following Rheinhessen QbA. Major grape varieties are Riesling and Müller-Thurgau, while the red wine varieties are mostly Dornfelder.
