Major wine regions of France slide 3

In Champagne region there are three major districts of Montagne de Reims (Mountains of Reims), Vallée de la Marne (Marne Valley) and Côtes des Blancs (White Hills).  There are also districts of Côte de Sézanne and Côte des Bar, also called Aube. Grapes are planted where they are most suited with the Vallé de la Marne best for Meunier, Côte des Blancs for Chardonnay and Montagne de Reims for Pinot Noir (although they can be found in any region and there are no rules). Soils are limestone over chalk that make for elegant wines with high acidity which are perfect for making Champagne. The chalk soils are part of an area called the ‘Paris Basin’ that stretches from Chablis in the east and on to southern England. All areas known for producing some of the finest white and sparkling wines in the world.
