Course Objective

Aimed at building up confidence, efficiency and improve customer service levels, this course is focused on the soft
skills needed to optimise the wine service, and satisfy the expectations of patrons. Through lectures, role play and
practical cases, the student will learn how to properly present and serve wines, manage glassware and temperatures,
understand food pairing and deal with clients’ expectations.

understand food pairing and deal with clients’ expectations.

Syllabus

Presentation of the career path toward sommelier. Wine rules to use in the hospitality service – Service preparation
– Glassware and temperature management. Wine service, bottle and glass, service equipment. Customer services,
wine language, service etiquette, recommendations, dealing with complaints, use of language and body language.
Food pairing rules, and how to guide patrons while optimizing sales.

Outcome

Once your course is complete, a timed 1 hour online examination will validate the competencies of the students. A
certificate will be printable online if successful.

Wine Ambassador Certification is the first step toward becoming a SASA Junior Sommelier and a stepping stone
toward Certified Sommelier.

Successful candidates can collect a Sommeliers Academy Wine Ambassador pin at our Cape Town office to proudly
display their achievement in the workplace. Alternatively, we are able to courier the pin at an additional fee
depending on your location.
