Wine personality of the day

Originally born in the Western Cape, Bruce Jack has made a great impact on wine in South Africa after finding himself in Australia not knowing which direction life would lead him. There, he learnt how to make wine which eventually became his life. He travelled the world extensively learning his art, eventually landing back in Cape Town in 1998. He immediately set up the Flagstone winery in a disused space in the centre of Cape Town buying in grapes from farmers and putting his well-honed skills to use making interesting wines, often as blends, that were to take the market by storm. After huge success, the winery grew until it was eventually sold in 2008 to Constellation, a company owning many international wine brands from several countries. After various business sales and mergers, Flagstone ended up in the Accolade group where Bruce remained working as head winemaker. He has now created his own Bruce Jack Wine brand that produces wines from all corners of the world under one label while running his own farm called ‘The Drift’ high up in the cool Overberg region of South Africa.
