Medoc

The Médoc is a thin strip of land on the left bank of the Gironde river from its entrance to the Atlantic ocean up to the wood of Ronde. The upper part of the area is Haut-Médoc and the lower part is Médoc. The soil is poor and very well drained with gravel, clay and limestone. The warm climate is extremely suitable for Cabernet Sauvignon, the principle grape of this district which produces rich and strong red wines with a high potential for ageing.
