The Certified Sommelier course is for candidates already qualified to Junior Sommelier level that wish to take the SASA Level 2 Certified Sommelier examination. The course prepares students for the exam and covers all elements of wine service to international standards. Students wishing to obtain the ASI International Sommelier Diploma should undertake Level 2 Certified Sommelier first.
The three days of intensive training are for students with extensive experience as a Junior Sommelier in a hospitality environment. Students should also have a good knowledge of international wines, having previously gained WSET 3 or Sommeliers Academy Advanced Wine Certificate.
After taking the course and practical experience in the workplace, students will be put forward to take the SASA Level 2 Certified Sommelier exam. The examination is in three modules over a full day. The first module is a theory exam which consists of multiple choice and short answer questions about international wines, beverage program management and wine service. The second module is a tasting paper that tests student’s ability to identify wines, spirits and other beverages, assess quality, prepare for service and pair with food. The final module consists of several practical tasks in a hospitality setting while delivering the highest standard of care and service. Pass mark is 60% for each module.
Duration: 3 days for qualified SASA Junior Sommelier, 4 days for all other candidates. 1 additional day is required for final exam with SASA
