Toscana

Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a white wine made from the Vernaccia grape around the village of San Gimignano. In 1966, it was the first wine to receive a DOC designation. This wine style has been made in the area for over seven centuries and is considered Tuscany’s best and most characterful white wine. The wine is dry and full-bodied with earthy notes of honey and minerals. Most other white wines are made at Vino da Tavola level. Sangiovese is the dominant red variety. It is occasionally blended with small amounts of other indigenous red varieties but are never listed on the label. Remember, under EU law, wine must contain at least 85% of the specified variety or vintage for the label.
