Main grape varieties

The entire region has seen changes in the varieties grown with many single variety wines now being seen instead of traditional blends. The relaxing of PGI laws has allowed for many regions to take advantage of trends or consumer demand by planting varieties not previously seen. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and even Pinot Noir are now grown across the region avoiding the stricter AOC laws. While some have proven to be successful, many have fallen into the trap of trying to grow grapes unsuited to the climate. It is usually too warm for Pinot Noir and naturally low acidity white grapes end up making flabby wines that fail to sell for a profit.
