Burgundy slide 3

Wines of Burgundy are as highly regarded as those of Bordeaux although, due to its location, has never been as successful. With limited transport links before the A6 motorway, the area always had difficulty in reaching markets further away. Its vineyards expand for 220km from Auxerre in the north to Lyon in the south with Dijon and Mâcon in between. The region is divided into five areas which are from the north, Chablis, Côte D’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. The characteristic of Burgundy wines is that they are made from a single grape variety and its vineyards are divided into small plots. There are nearly 100 AOCs, four thousand three hundred domaines, one hundred and thirteen négociants and seventeen cooperatives producing wines. Depending on soils and producers, the flavours of wines are diverse and unique.
